This practice is designed to help you tune into your body’s natural wisdom. Rather than trying to change or fix anything, you’ll focus on noticing the sensation or tension in your body and allow your body’s natural impulses to guide your response.
What to Do:
1. Get Comfortable: Find a quiet space where you can sit or lie comfortably. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Begin by bringing your attention to any area of tension, discomfort, or sensation in your body. This might be a tightness in your chest, a pressure in your shoulders, or a general feeling of discomfort anywhere in your body.
2. Notice the Sensation: As you focus on the sensation, simply notice what’s there. Don’t try to change, avoid, or label it; just allow it to exist. The key here is non-attachment—allow the sensation to be exactly as it is.
3. Tune Into Your Body’s Impulse: As you sit with the sensation, notice if any impulses arise in your body. These are not thoughts or decisions you’re making with your mind; they’re natural, instinctive responses your body might have to the sensation. For example, you might feel the impulse to stretch, breathe deeply, shift your position, place a hand on your chest, or even stand up. Pay close attention to any subtle urges your body gives you.
4. Stay With the Impulse: Once you’ve noticed an impulse, stay with it. Don’t rush to act on it, but simply observe it. Notice how the impulse feels in your body, the movement it creates, and the sensation that follows. You are tuning into the flow of your body’s wisdom, allowing it to guide you.
5. Follow Through with the Impulse: If you feel the urge to do something—stretch, massage, breathe, move—allow yourself that now. Don’t overthink it or try to control it. Simply allow the action to unfold. Feel the freedom of letting your body lead the way.
Purpose:
This practice helps you build trust in your body’s natural impulses and its ability to guide you toward what it needs. It encourages you to stay connected to the present moment, noticing and allowing sensations and impulses without interference from the mind.
By staying with your body’s impulses, you deepen your connection to your body and its natural flow, reinforcing non-attachment and trust.
